Position Overview:

Be part of the Kitchener camp coordination team – where fun and friends meet!

 

The City of Kitchener is looking for creative, energetic and experienced leaders who are passionate about working with children and motivated to lead our summer day camp staff team.

 

Our coordinators are creative leaders who know how to build team spirit and guide young staff.  As a part of our City of Kitchener Neighbourhood Camps team, you will help us to offer active, neighbourhood-based, day camps for children ages 4 to 13. You’ll be responsible for leading and mentoring a staff team and supporting positive and impactful programming that is inclusive, diverse and fun for all.

 

We are looking for staff who are:

  • Experienced, creative and responsible
  • Team-players who have demonstrated team-building skills
  • Experienced in leading camp staff and providing support and coaching
  • Aware of child development and early learning theory, of concepts of physical and emotional literacy and age and of stage appropriate programming
  • Experienced in developing, implementing and reviewing program plans to produce an entertaining camp for participants
  • Organized and can coordinate multiple sites
  • Strong leaders who enjoy creating a fun atmosphere for children across the City of Kitchener

Employment Dates: May 20, 2025 - August 22 or Aug 29, 2025 (depending on site assignment)

Hours per week: 35 hours

Hours of work: 7 hours/day, 8:15am-5:15pm (shifts will vary)

  • Participation in evening and weekend Leader training June 11, 12, 14, 21.
  • Please Note: ALL training in-person and online is required and mandatory to complete prior to start of program/camp. 
  • No work scheduled June 30 and on statutory holidays (July 1 and August 4).
  • Work will include working in a variety of outdoor conditions, office work and active play. 

 

Selection is based on a combination of application and interview.  

 

Responsibilities:

 

Staff Coordination

  • Assist the Children Services Coordinator in the design, development and delivery of staff training.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly coordination team meetings and collaborate and communicate effectively with all team members.
  • Implement team-building strategies, staff appreciation and incentive programs and actively participate in creating a high-energy team.
  • Assist the Children Services Coordinator in assigning camp teams.
  • Monitor program activities and provide support, coordination and feedback to staff to ensure the delivery of safe, quality, and inclusive programs.
  • Provide written evaluations of assigned staff.

 

Program Coordination and Administration

  • Prepare program materials (e.g. parent information packages, waivers, staff manuals, staff contact list, program binders, etc.).
  • Assist in creating program plans and program calendars and assembling program supplies.
  • Help implement and support programs by actively participating in camp programs with staff, role-modelling leadership and camp management skills.
  • Interact with staff, participants, parents/caregivers, and community members/agencies to provide program information and support.
  • Take action to deal with escalated participant incidents, problems, emergencies and parent concerns.
  • Support the programming of special guests, outings and Adventure Playday.
  • Coordinate the collection and maintenance of staff/participants forms, evaluations and statistics as well as write and submit reports including a final report prior to completion of program.
  • Perform tasks to support the program including purchasing and distributing program supplies, submitting weekly staff attendance.
  • Provide first aid as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum grade 12 diploma preferred. 
  • Minimum of two seasons with camp or related children’s programming experience preferred.
  • Minimum age requirement must be at least 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment, unless otherwise specified
  • Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate 
  • Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment issued after March 1, 2025.
  • Access to reliable personal transportation is required
  • Completion of Principles in Healthy Child Development training considered an asset.
  • Employment is conditional upon; attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
